      User's guide for the program EMISSION.EXE, V3.04, 05-Sep-2002
      -------------------------------------------------------------

1. General
1.1 EMISSION is a program running in the MS-DOS environment.
It calculates the emission probabilities of K-and L-X ray quanta
and K- and L-Auger electrons for a radionuclide with i EC transitions
      and j gamma transitions.

The physical background of the calculations is explained in detail in:
Schoenfeld, E., Janszen, H.: Calculation of emission probabilities of
X-rays and Auger electrons emitted in nuclear disintegration processes.
Proceedings of the 12th International Conference on Radionuclide
Metrology and its Applications, Prague, 07.06. - 11.06.1999.
      Applied Radiation and Isotopes 52 (2000) 595-600.

1.2 EMISSION needs two files from which the necessary input data are read:

EMISSION.101 Atomic shell data as function of the atomic number Z.
The data are taken from report PTB-Ra-37, March 1995,
ISBN 3-89429-624-0. The file EMISSION.101 is provided
                    with the program.

EMISSION.102 Decay parameters of the radionuclide under study.
EMISSION.102 is a template file which is provided with
                    the program.

EMISSION reads the input data from the two files. The file name
EMISSION.101 is fixed, the file name for the specific nuclide under
study must be specified by the user in the DOS command line. This file
name is arbitrary. The file has to be prepared by the user for each
radionuclide. For a new radionuclide, it is recommended to copy an
existing file and alter the respective entries in the new file.
All input files only contain ASCII characters and may be created or
changed by any text editor of the DOS environment.

2. Usage
2.1 Create an input file for the radionuclide under study.
Example: Calculation of emission probabilities for Ce-139.
      > COPY EMISSION.102 CE139.102
The sample file EMISSION.102 is on disk.

The input file contains three blocks of data.
The first block describes the radionuclide under study.
The second block contains the primary decay parameters
      pEC, pK, pL1, pL2, pL3.
The third block contains photon energy E, emission probability
pGamma and conversion coefficients AlphaK, AlphaL1, AlphaL2, AlphaL3.

Each block is terminated by an END statement.
The input file may contain comments. Comments are introduced by a
      semicolon (;).
The decimal point is either a komma or a dot on the line.

2.2 Start editor session on input file (template EMISSION.102).
Change nuclide, Z of daughter nuclide and values of
      pEC, pK, pL1, pL2, pL3, E, pGamma, AlphaK, AlphaL1, AlphaL2, AlphaL3
      by overwriting the existing values.

2.3 Note: The values of the energy E have only informative character.
They are not a matter of calculation. pGamma is the gamma emission
probability which does not include conversion electrons.
Delete all data which are not needed for the new radionuclide
(or add more if necessary) but take care that END stays at the end
of each of the three blocks.

2.4 Note: The entries in the input file may be specified with measurement
uncertainties (standard uncertainties). An uncertainty is added to the
respective value in brackets in terms of the least significant digits
      of the value. Example: 1.234(21) means (1.234 +- 0.021).

2.5 Save the file and terminate editor session.

2.5 Run the program EMISSION using the DOS command
      > EMISSION CE141.102

2.6 The standard output device of the program is the user's terminal.
Output is directed to a file if the name of the file is given in the
      command line, e. g.

      > EMISSION CE141.102 Output to the user's terminal,
      > EMISSION CE141.102 CE141.103 Output do file CE141.103.
