Decay Data Evaluation Project

High-quality evaluated atomic and nuclear data, such as half-life, decay mode and branching ratios, radiation energies and emission probabilities, are needed in applied research and for detector calibration.

In 1995 an international collaboration was formed, the Decay Data Evaluation Project, which includes members from the CEA/LNHB (France), PTB (Germany), INEEL (USA), KRI (Russia), LBNL (USA), NPL (United Kingdom), CIEMAT (Spain), CNDC (China), NIM (China), NIST (USA), IFIN-HH (Romania) with the objective of providing carefully produced recommended data.

The recommended data are available from this website hosted and updated by the Laboratoire National Henri Becquerel and through the BIPM Monographie-5 series, available here. At the International Committee for Radionuclide Metrology (ICRM) General Meeting, Oxford, September 2005, the Delegates formally approved the recommendation to use DDEP evaluated decay data in all future nuclear data studies.

More details on the DDEP can be found in this recent article and a brief description of the physical decay process and details of the evaluation methodology are available in this introduction.

Since 2006, biennial workshops/training sessions have been organized, starting in Saclay in 2006, then 2008 in Bucharest (organized by IFIN-HH), 2010 in Madrid (organized by CIEMAT), 2012 in Paris (organized by LNHB), 2014 in Bucharest (organized by IFIN-HH) and 2016 in Teddington (organized by NPL). The summary report of the DDEP meeting from 2001 offers some additional background information.

All enquiries regarding the recommended data and how they were established should be addressed directly to the author of the evaluation – see below.
