Elementary composition of the samples

The elementary composition of the scintillator is necessary in order to calculate the photoelectric effect correction, the electron linear energy transfer used in the Birks formula and also the photon-interaction cross-sections in the case of photon emitting radionuclides. The calculation must also include the composition of the aqueous solution to measure (radioactive solution and carrier solution).

Liquid scintillation cocktails manufacturers are kindly asked to provide the atomic composition of their products.

The elemental composition of Perkin Elmer scintillators is given here, in terms of element percentage or stoechiometric composition (courtesy Marleen Stomp-Smit, Perkin Elmer, 2010).
